Lightwave Surfboards and Fins
Son of a surfer and surfboard glasser. Grandson of a builder, a naval sailor and fisherman. Great grandson to a lineage of lighthouse keepers. Saltwater has been the common bond through the generations of my lineage and naturally drew me to a life centred around the rhythm of the sea.
Lightwave surfboards and fins was born out of a combination of many things. Firstly, a love of the sea and being in it; to be as close to its energy as is possible in the form of riding its waves. Then the creativity on offer in building surf craft I’m passionate about and of course a lifestyle built around what I love; surfing.
I was brought up around the beautiful boards my father, Phil Jamieson, glassed. Shaped by New Zealand master shaper Wayne Parkes. My first ever board was a Wayne Parkes, so the bar was set quite high of what I expect from the performance and life expectancy of a surfboard. Many more of these boards followed as my surfing and the waves I surfed grew.
My venture into shaping started primarily for myself and my interest in finding the right board for the right wave. It has been an organic evolution of leaving behind an engineering career, to shaping for friends, then to the start of Lightwave. I’ve been riding craft built to last a lifetime and so I desire to carry this on and build boards that if treated with respect should last many years.
